The Arrival

Although I’m not a huge fan of graphic novels, this particular one did appeal to me. There was nary a word yet the book conveyed through well drawn images a clear story of the worry and pain of the immigrant man leaving his home and family to make a new home in a new country with a strange language. Upon his arrival we see his struggles to find decent lodging, food and employment without the benefit on speaking the language of the host country, all the while missing his family and the comfort they bring him. We are shown the immigrant’s isolation as he slowly finds his place in the fabric of society until the time comes when he can now send for his wife and daughter to join him and the joy of the family uniting. This is a beautiful book with touching insight into an immigrant’s experience.
