A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess For the first 40 or so pages I hated it, wanted to throw it against the wall, burn it, stomp on it and forget I had ever opened this book up but then something happened. I forced myself to read just 10 more pages, to give it a chance to show me why this was supposed to be such an important work and it began to do just that. IMHO the brilliant part was in making up a new language which took it out of the ranks of the ordinary book dealing with teen violence, growing up, free will and the dangers of an all powerful government and put it into a category all of its own. This is not the kind of book that you can be iffy on and just like...it will engender strong emotions where you either hate it or appreciate the brilliance of his style. Either way this is not a book that you can easily forget
